More about this artwork:
"This work is a metaphor for consciousness. Two elements, light and water, create a third elusive element, the rainbow. Like flesh, charged electricity creates life. I saw a rainbow in a fountain and thought it a perfect sculpture. The pieces took three years of research to create. It’s a beautiful moving thing, a free thing bred in captivity. Yet it’s still as elusive as the naturally occurring rainbow – if you get too close it disappears. It is linked to the diamond sculpture for me, a real thing created artificially. I also like the idea of creating a monumental immaterial sculpture." - Marc Quinn, Recent Sculptures Catalogue, Groninger Museum, 2006
